We are pleased to share with you the new Insights Report from this year’s Kaldor Centre Conference, Good decisions: Achieving fairness in refugee law, policy and practice, held at UNSW Sydney on 26 November 2019.

As we note in the report: ‘So much comes down to one decision. All the vital, overlapping and sometimes interlocking global, regional and national forced-migration issues…  can be met or unravel in that moment. Refugee status determination (RSD) is not abstract, as one former refugee put it; ‘it is a matter of life and death.’

‘It is also, too often, stacked against those who seek protection.’

Explore the highlights inside, including how we tackle the challenge of credibility, covered in Dr Hilary Evans Cameron’s keynote address, and the challenges ahead, as outlined in Guy S Goodwin-Gill’s Year in Review. From the ‘hidden decisions’ made on asylum claims at Australian airports, to our constricting citizenship laws, to how refugees are leading change, we hope you enjoy the fascinating insights from our conference.

You will find podcasts of most of the presentations on our website, or through subscribing to the Kaldor Centre podcast in iTunes.

We encourage you to share these resources, to keep the conversation going – and growing.
