The Forgotten Children: An evening with Gillian Triggs

The Australian Human Rights Commission’s report, The Forgotten Children: Australia’s treatment of asylum seeker and refugee children on the mainland and offshore, attracted considerable controversy but scant consideration of its important findings. The purpose of this event was to refocus attention on what the Commission found through its investigation into children in immigration detention.

Professor Gillian Triggs, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission, discussed the findings of the report on the impact of immigration detention on the health, well-being and development of children, and its assessment of whether laws, policies and practices relating to children in immigration detention were consistent with Australia’s international human rights obligations.
